Remembering G30S: Learning from History, Preserving National Unity

Every September 30, Indonesians remember one of the significant and complex events in the nation’s history: the September 30 Movement of 1965, commonly referred to in Indonesia as G30S/PKI. The events of late September and early October 1965 became an important turning point in Indonesia’s political and social history. Several Army officers were killed during the events, which were followed by major political developments and widespread social conflict. The history of 1965 continues to be studied from different perspectives, particularly concerning the background, sequence of events, and the parties involved.
